LIBERTY NICKELS (1883-1912)
![]() |
Liberty Nickels (1883-1912): The first year type of the Liberty Nickel had a large roman numeral "V", but did not have the word Cents. Some were gold plated and were being passed off as five dollars. Later in the year, the word "Cents" was added to the reverse to discourage this crime. Key dates include the 1885, 1886 and 1912-S.
