SEATED QUARTERS (1838-1891)
![]() |
Seated Quarters (1838-1891): The Seated Liberty design started in mid-1838 and lasted until 1891. From 1853 to 1855, arrows were placed on both sides of the date to signify a reduction in the weight of the coin. In 1866, the motto "IN GOD WE TRUST" was added to the reverse. From 1873 to 1874, arrows reappeared on the obverse, this time for the weight change from 6.22 to 6.25 grams.
