LARGE CENTS

LARGE CENTS
Large Cents (1793-1857): One of the first coins struck at the U.S. Mint was the Large Cent. This larger copper coin was struck from 1793 to 1857 with the exception of 1815, when there was a copper shortage and a fire forced the closing of the Mint. All Large Cents were minted in Philadelphia. There are several types including 1793 Chain, 1793 Wreath and Liberty Cap (1793-1796), Draped Bust Type (1796-1807), Classic Head (1808-1814) and Coronet Type (1816-1857).

1793 Wreath Cent F12 Details ANACS
Item #120232
1793 Wreath Cent F12 Details ANACS
"F12 Details - Corroded/Burnished" Even, deep ebony brown color on both sides with a lighter planchet streak that runs vertically down the central area of the obverse. The portrait is bold with lots of hair detail visible, the date is a bit weak yet fully readable and Liberty is full. Reverse is weakly struck in the very center making the word ONE CENT quite weak. The surfaces are porous from corrosion, more so on the reverse, and parts of the fields have been burnished to smooth out the surfaces. Lots of detail for the price and a wonderful opportunity to add this scarce coin to your collection!
$1595.00

"VG Details - Env. Damage" Looks more G4 detail in our opinion, though more likely it is a weakly struck VG. The portrait is fully outlined and Liberty is weak yet readable, though the date is not visible. Reverse has most of the central detail visible, with a weak strike along the peripheries making most of the mottos quite weak. The surfaces are porous, and there are rust-colored planchet splits visible on the lower portion of both sides. A very affordable, certified example of this very scarce issue! Lettered Edge variety
