LARGE CENTS
Large Cents (1793-1857): One of the first coins struck at the U.S. Mint was the Large Cent. This larger copper coin was struck from 1793 to 1857 with the exception of 1815, when there was a copper shortage and a fire forced the closing of the Mint. All Large Cents were minted in Philadelphia. There are several types including 1793 Chain, 1793 Wreath and Liberty Cap (1793-1796), Draped Bust Type (1796-1807), Classic Head (1808-1814) and Coronet Type (1816-1857).
