SEPTEMBER - OCTOBER 2014 EMPIRE COINS BLOG

We welcome you to our new and expanded September-October 2014 catalogue.  We have many  new and exciting collector coins in this issue.  Should you be looking for a key date, vintage coin, or a low mintage rarity, they are all listed on the pages to follow.  Empire has been the collector’s friend for over 40 years.  It is our top priority to supply you with accurately graded and described coins you will be proud to own.  After all, we buy back thousands of our coins each year at 80% of what they will list for.   We are partners when you purchase a coin,  we want you to have a beautiful coin, and we want to have high quality coins to someday buy back.  If you have access to a computer, pull us up at www.empirecoins.net, and you can view detailed photos of the coins currently for sale.  Nice sharp color images with two magnification levels for close examination.  This is a huge help in picking coins that are exactly what you are looking for.

We have a major show dealer friend visit our office about every three months.  We have been friends since 1983.   During the four days he is here, we go on a buying binge of scarce coins.  On his recent visit this summer, we were talking about the differences in the Market during the 31 year period we’ve done business together.   There are many differences, but the most obvious one is the availability of vintage coins.   When we first started doing business, we were buying and selling a lot of early American coins prior to 1836.  Early copper, Draped Bust coins, Capped Bust coins and most other vintage coins have dried up.   We always look for these early type coins, but we only locate a few each month.  Other changes we discussed are  changes in coin dealers.  My dealer friend is a “Show Dealer”.  He travels all around the Country following the coin show circuit.  He meets and deals with hundreds of dealers.  He notes that dealers in the 1980’s and earlier were all coin collectors.   They seemed to have a better understanding of what collectors like for eye appeal, and loved to “talk coins” with the buyers.   Many dealers from 1990 and later were never coin collectors.  They got into coin dealing as a career to make money.   You have to turn a profit to stay in business, but when the  primary goal is just to make money, the coin quality usually suffers.  Coins today are usually maxed out for grade, and many flaws go unnoticed, or just unlisted in descriptions.  This is a problem to collectors and dealers trying to buy from other dealers.   At Empire, we are collectors serving collectors.  We enjoy working with coins, and want to share this fun with you.   If you are new to Empire, give us a try.  You will see the difference, in the conservative grading, and full descriptions.  As a family business, we take pride in delivering beautiful quality coins you will be proud to own.  Our top priority is customer satisfaction, and sharing the fun of coin collecting.
